The Swerve Ch 7

The Swerve Ch 7

In Chapter 7 of “The Swerve”, the author brings into the intellectual climate of the Renaissance and the revival of ancient texts. The author could explore the cultural significance of the rediscovery of Lucretius’s “On the Nature of Things” during this period, highlighting how this text challenged prevailing religious and philosophical beliefs of the time.

Another thing that I like that the author focuses on Chapter 7 could be the impact of Lucretius’s ideas on prominent thinkers of the Renaissance. Greenblatt might discuss how the Epicurean philosophy of Lucretius influenced scholars and intellectuals, contributing to a shift in worldview, scientific exploration, and cultural attitudes toward pleasure and the natural world.

The question I’d ask is how much of Lucretius’s ideas play a role in todays society?
