Covid Killed Cupid
In the article, “Covid Killed Cupid”, University of Michigan student Angelina Akouri brings up the fact that guys and girls social dynamics have changed overtime due to COVID. Women were not going for pickup lines like they had used to or even letting someone ask them on a date. The truth is that due to everyone staying inside for so long nobody remembers how to interact in person.
Akuri did some research and found out that face to face communication is critical for a person’s well being. You see people think because they use facetime or snapchat that they are still having face to face conversation, but when it comes to talking in person people begin to go as quiet as an owl. In person people can see everything, someone’s eye contact, and emotion.
Instead of in person people have tried converting to online dating apps like Tinder, Hinge, or Bumble. People may be using these apps more but studies have shown the success rates have gone down tremendously. Talking to someone may be a bit more scary of a task in person but is most definitely worth it in the long. You build confidence overtime so when it is time to talk to someone you like, you’re ready and not nervous. We need to as a society focus on getting back into the real world, because if we can, life can be much more exciting for everyone else.
Let People Talk in the Library
In the article, “Let People Talk in the Library”, University of Michigan student Kate Micallef believes that people should be able to have conversations in a library and not be quiet. Micallef brings up that her favorite place on campus to study is the library and that it is always very packed in that area. Even though they have many materials needed to have you succeed in your classes as well as a space for you to meet with your friends and study, everyone knows noise cannot happen there.
At first Micallef would go to the library and hate it when people would be loud when she was trying to read or get an assignment done for her class. She thought that structure was the way to go, but overtime she realized that discussions happening in an area like a library can become very productive for one another.
You see, to some the library is more than just an area to go and study, it’s also a safe place for them to go and be themselves. If you’re having a busy day and your roommate or roommates happen to have friends over, you’re going to want a safe place to wind down. Also since the library is such a common area many people do homework there together and catch up with one another.
The library can definitely have an assumption of what is going to be like before due to all the movies and tv shows giving such a serious idea. In reality though, the library is a place that can be and should be a place that everyone can go to not only to get work done, but also be able to wind down and have a good time with your peers as well.
