Learning Outcome 4
Looking back at my first peer review for my other classmates, my goal was to try and make their writings the way professor Miller’s style. Sad to say at the time I did not know his style so early in the year. So instead of my original plan I decided to go off our rubric to try and help my peer get the highest score possible. My first advice that I gave Liv was to try and try to use the original formatting when it comes to essays. Meaning, in your intro let the writer know what we are talking about, talk about the passage we read and a bit about the author, and have your thesis at the end. Next I wanted to go through each sentence making sure that the writing flows and to move sentences in later places. Some advice that I gave was, “I think this sentence could be used but later on in a different paragraph”, as well as, “I like the explanation but maybe could be explained a bit differently. You start with I in back to back sentences”. Reviewing my peers’ writing did not only help improve their writing but it helped improve my essay as well. Getting to read other classmates’ essays and seeing if I’m going in the right direction and seeing how I could improve my writing helped me become a better writer. In conclusion peer reviews were a great way to learn how to revise essays and how to help your peers and give advice in a positive way.
