Reflection Short Story 1
I feel like I am pretty proud of myself with this piece because I stepped into a world that I was not very familiar with. Creating a fictional short story was something different for me, especially because I had to write the entire story in third person. I enjoyed being able to create my own characters, situation, and story instead of writing about something that actually happened. I also liked how I was able to build the emotions throughout the story, especially with the man having to make the hardest decision of his life. I feel like I was able to make the reader understand how difficult the situation was for him and how much his wife and child meant to him. Overall, I am proud that I was able to step outside of my comfort zone and create something that I normally would not write.
One thing I wish I could have done better was make the ending more clear to the audience. I wanted the ending to leave the reader wondering what decision the man made because I wanted to show that there was no true right or wrong answer to his situation. I wanted the audience to think about what they would have done if they were put in the same position instead of simply telling them what happened. At the same time, I think I could have made that idea more obvious so the reader understood what I was trying to show. The ending leaves the man waiting and questioning whether the decision he made was really what his wife would have wanted. If I go back and revamp this essay, I would work on making the ending stronger while still keeping the idea that there was no true answer to the decision he had to make.
