Journal 1

I really enjoyed the first few pages of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. I’ll be honest, when it comes to reading I’m super picky about the types stories I choose but I enjoyed this one from the start. What I got from the first chapter was that in order to become a good writer you need to practice these skills all the time. Lamott points out that you should keep your mind going so that when you flip the switch from writing for practice instead of the real deal, it get’s easier overtime. One of the things I really appreciated was that she made the main character feel like how we did when we started writing. We had no idea what we ever wanted to write about, it’s like a journey. Your mind is racing but you simply don’t know where to start. The best part about it all, is she finds a way to be funny throughout this chapter. I think she is trying to teach us something in this chapter, writing is going to be a battle and not easy. But writing is also supposed to be fun the more you do it.
